What are the symptoms of dengue fever?

The most common symptoms of dengue are fever, headaches, and pain in the muscles and joints. Other symptoms can include rash, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

WHAT ARE THE TESTS RECOMMENDED BY A DOCTOR TO DIAGNOSE DENGUE?

Dengue fever testing is used to find out if a person who shows signs of dengue and has recently been exposed to the virus is infected. The disease can be hard to diagnose because some symptoms look like malaria. There are two types of tests available:

1. Antibody tests - These are mainly used to diagnose current or recent infection and detect various classes of antibodies that are produced in response to the infection, such as IgG and IgM.

2. PCR Tests - These test for the presence of the virus itself and can be used to identify currently active infections. Normally, 5 days after the onset of symptoms, the genetic material can be found in the blood.

WHAT DOES DENGUE IgG POSITIVE MEAN?

The IgM and IgG tests are used to detect the presence of dengue antibodies in a person. If the test for IgM is positive, it means that the person has suffered from a recent infection. If IgG is positive, and IgM is negligible, it signifies that the person had been infected by mosquitoes in the past.
